Here’s what happens between someone pitching us a deal and us investing in it. Step one is sourcing. Ticker Tape’s large network of investors brings us much of our deal flow, and we also find deals online through sites that offer access to pre-IPO deals and venture capital funds.
Step two is diligence. We use detailed due diligence checklists for every deal. Among other things, we look at who has invested before, make sure we know about any fees, and examine the valuation: why we’re paying it, how it compares with what earlier investors paid, and whether we think it’s lower than the likely valuation when the company goes public.
Key points
- Sourcing comes from the investor network and online pre-IPO and VC platforms.
- Every deal goes through a detailed due diligence checklist.
- Key checks include prior investors, fees and valuation.
- The valuation should be below the likely IPO valuation.
