Anduril is changing defense contracting. Among other things, it builds AI-driven weapons, including a fighter jet flown entirely by AI with no pilot. In an interview, Anduril’s CEO explained what that changes. Military pilots are trained to avoid certain maneuvers because there’s, say, an 80% chance they’d die, even if it means losing the encounter.
With no pilot in the cockpit, that calculation changes. The aircraft can take whatever risk is needed to win, because there’s no human to protect. And instead of sending one fighter jet, you can send 40, because they come off the assembly line and there are no pilots to replace. That’s changing warfare and technology.
